“Peckham, St. Jude's.-On the evening of the 12th ult., a Lantern Lecture was given at the C.A. Mission Hall, Lower park Road, the hall being crowded to the uttermost capacity. The subject of the lecture was 'the work of the Church Army,' and Miss Cheshire, who is connected with the work of the Army in its social aspect, came from Headquarters and gave a deeply interesting account of the work which this organisation is doing so unostentatiously throughout the lenght and breadth of England. At the close of the lecture, which was listened to with the deepest attention, Captain Comer moved a vote of thanks to the lecturer, which was seconded by Mr. Laws, and heartily responded to by all present. Mr. Hunt, Superintendent of the st. Jude Peckham Church Sunday School, to whose unvarying courtesy and kindness the C.A. Mission owes so much, then proposed that a similar lecture in the Parochial Hall would prove instructive to many who scarcely yet realised what the work of the Church Army was. The Captain then proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Hunt for his kindness in lending and working the lantern. This was seconded by Mr. Sutton, and heartily responded to. Mr. Campbell assisted in preparing for the lecture and in working the lantern, and Miss Crane (Secretary of the C.A. St. Jude Peckham Band of Hope) presided at the harmonium.”
