“Spitalfield's Youth Labour Home.- Everyone from Staff-Captain Shingler and his wife, down to the most recent comer, were in high spirits both on Boxing and New Year's Day. The Home was beautifully decorated with appropriate mottoes. After a substantial dinner, the Rector and and Mrs. Scott came and inspected the Home. In the evening, Captain Shingler manipulated the magic lantern and Miss Scott read. The Rector gave the boys a telling address suggested by the subject of the lantern exhibition 'The Mother's Last Words'. He told of his own conversion, and then in a manly way, affectionately invited the boys to come to him in any trouble for sympathy and advice. (...)”
