“'Hope Deferred': This parish has recently received a visit of the Canterbury No I. Army Van led by Capt. Halliwell and Cadet Drowning. (...) The height of success was reached at the farewell service; although a thouroughly wet night the audience swelled out to the number of 116, who took part with earnestness and great zeal in a beautiful lantern service, followed by an impressive address by Capt. Halliwell (...).”
