“'Where King Alfred Burnt Cakes': The Bristol diocesan Church Army Van recently held a mission in this parish, the services were well attended each evening, many people being present (...). The services were held in the large room of the National Schools, children's services being held previous to the adults' service on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., a lantern service was given to the inmates of the Workhouse, situate in the parish. The people, both young and old, thouroughly enjoyed the service, the 'old, old story being ever new'.”
