“'First Aid Comes In': This Mission commenced on September 6th. The Rev. E. A. Lane, curate of Bushey, held services on the 6th and 8th, at Woodstone and Eastham Bridge. On September 11th, Captain Clements and Captain Hitchcox, of the Church Army arrived. The Hoppers, numbered about 2300 and the work was most actively carried on by these Church Army officers until Sept. 29th. During the mission, eighteen open-air services were held and also ten lantern services. Although the weather was far from good, the attendances at the services were very encouraging and sometimes very large.”
