“'A Silent Crowd': We have once again had the pleasure of a visit from the Exeter I Church Army Van. Services have been held in the schoolroom and the earnest addresses of Capt. Gribbon and his cadet, Mr. Broadley, have been helpful and refreshing to many in the Christian race. The lantern service were exeptionally well attended and appreciated (...). With much painstaking the officers brought the lantern into the centre of the town one night. Being quite a novelty in the open-air it was expected to draw a great many, but the crowd which gathered far exceeded our anticiaptions. First were shown a series of slides on the work of Church Army, explained by th captain, and afterwards many sacred pictures were thrown on the sheet, and the earnest words spoken by the Captain wer listened to very attentively by all (...)”
