Church Army York II Van – organiser
“'St. Philip in the Desert': The York No. II Diocesan Church Army Van has been stationed a fortnight besides Bursea Chapel, and a week in the village of Holme. Bursea is some four miles from Holme Parish Church, and contains a few farm places, no village or hamlet. The chapel , after being closed four or five years, was reopened on the Sunday before the Van came, and Capt. Peart and Cadet Mottam held daily mission services in it. The attendance was remarkable, considering the small and scattered population, from 30 to 50 were present at each service. Mr. Hairshirne, of Bursea farm, kindly moved to the Van to Holme, where the week was rather broken, and the attendance not so good except at two lantern serives on the 'Life of Christ' and the 'Work of the C.A.'.
