“'New Hearts – Under Red coats': (...) a thirteen days mission has just been concluded by Messrs. Hanson and Swift, evangelists of the Church Army, and was brought to a close on Friday night, October 10th, the attendance at each evening at both the higher and lower barracks (Topsham) has been very good. The meetings at the higher barracks were held in the gymnasium room, but under at the Topsham barracks, under three large marquees laced together. The troops have listened attentively while the Word of God has been expounded and the way of salvation made plain. (...) The lantern lecture on 'Convict Life' was much appreciated by the men. (...)”
