“'Notice to Quit': (...) On Wednesday evening Capt. Stanton gave a lantern lecture in the house where he lives. The room was packed with people as closely as pins and needles, cooton and thread in a hawker's basket. The captain's wife worked the lantern, while the evavngelist explained the pictures. One of the views thrown on the sheet was Timothy reading the Holy Scriptures. The lecturer advised people present not simply to give a text or verse of a scripture a chew or turn in the mind and then to have done with it, like the little lad does with his butterdrops or toffee, but to act wisely (...)”
