“We had one of the C.A. Vans in this parish for the last fortnight under Capt. Haynes with his assistant Brother Pretty and during their stay here they have had overcrowded meetings every evening (...). The have given either a lantern lecture or a mission service each night during their stay and the slides they use in the lantern are beautiful. One night the subject was 'The Torn Bible' shown by magic lantern views, which were greatly appreciated by all. The children were given a lantern lecture very nearly every night at half past five, but they were so taken up with the views and singing that they used to attend the one held for the adults at seven as well.
