“'A Trip to China Town': Our first monthly Temperance meeting was very well attended, the room was full. After a short programme by C.A. friendswho came over with Nurse Evans from Chilton, we had an interesting address from Nurse Rollinson. (...) Our lantern evenings, both here at Chilton and Newton, have also brought together many people. The captain's lecture on his 'Life in China' brought us a room full of adults. He put on his Chinese costume and explained some Chinese curiosities. We were much interested in his singing some Chinese hymns. (...) We are to have the lecture repeated. On the following evening the room was crowded with children to hear the captain's Chinese lecture.”
