“A special meeting for women was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Church-room, in connection with the Women's Union, and a large number of mothers were present, many of them bringing their little ones with them. Nurse Walton read selections from 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' which were listened to with much interest and attention, and Captian Pritchard presided over the Lantern, which proved a very great success. (...) The same lantern reading was given on Thursday to the navvies, who are now working at the new railway. There was an overflowing attendance (...)”
