“'Pokers and Patrionism': On Thursday the Band of Hope children, numbering 60, had their annual tea, kindly provided by Lady Pearce, which was greatly enjoyed. After tea a number of children gave recitations and dialogues and also sang temperance songs, which were much appreciated by an audience of 140. Lantern views were shown on the 'Life of Ikey' or 'Poke Your Own Fire', the reading was impressively given by Lady Pearce, who was with us the whole evening. (...)”
