ATKINSON, Captain W. (fl. 1900s) – lecturer
NEWELL, Mr (fl. 1900s) – lantern operator
“'Did the Slides Explode?': With the aid of a little piece of artillery in the shape of one of the splendid lanterns procured at the Church Army Lantern Department, and some well-made explosive shells (lantern slides), we were able to keep firing for well nigh two hours on Thursday night in our parish room, and the shells had good effect, for many a face was bathed in tears. The service of song was entitled 'Little Minnie'. Our vicar took prayers and read the story. (...) The following night, the same story was given in the South Union. The vicar was unavoidable absent, the prayers and story being taken by Acting – Capt. Atkinson, the lantern being managed by Mr. Newell.”
