GODDEN, Captain (fl. 1890s-1900s) – lecturer
Church Army Canterbury I Van – organiser
“'The Lenten Lantern': The Church Army Van (Canterbury I) under Capt. Godden, assisted by Lieut. Broadie, has just ended a three weeks' mission in this parish, having stayed a week longer than it was intended by the request of of the vicar and parishioners. Services were held in the schoolroom every evening, and were much enjoyed by the people – on several occasions the room was packed. The services were rendered very interesting by lantern slides. The life was Christ was taken in two parts on two first Sundays of the mission and was illustrated by lantern slides and ably explained by Capt. Godden. On the third Sunday, 'The Story of the Cross' and the 'Passion of our Lord' were sung on parts of Capt. Godden and the choir. Being illustrated by lantern slides the last service of the mission was particularly effective.”
