“'Cold water tea - A C.A. Novelty.' S. Helen's. - On Sunday and Monday we held our C.A. harvest home, which proved in every way a great success. [...] On Monday the chief event was a 'gradley' tea; many had worked well at it for weeks before, and it had been thouroughly well advertised; 5,000 hand-bills! cost 1s, 3d.! The room was filled twice over, and no less than 550 mouths were administered to between 6.15 and 7.30 p.m. We were glad to welcome Capts. Tatham and Parker, from the Van; Capt. and Mrs. Hatton, S.Thomas; Powell, Eccleston; Hunt, Sutton; Nurse Harrison from RAvenhead, and Irwin, S.Thomas. After tea was cleared the evening proceeded with a service of song, entitled, 'Given in Chrage,' illustrated by lantern views; Mrs Willink kindly read the story, and the lantern was in the Hands of Mr. R. Seddon. There was a choir of 45 voices, and the room was crammed to overflowing. [...]”
