“'A Mop Service.' King's Norton, Worcestershire. - The local Mop and Statute Fair has affronted us, for several years, an opportunity of trying to reach both the van dwellers and the many visitors who flock to it. This year some of our workers visited the vans on the Sunday morning, with CHURCH ARMY GAZETTES and other suitable literature, and as it was a pouring wet day we hope our visitors read them. In the afternoon the usual tea and Sunday school for van children was held, about thirty turning up. The old schoolroom was decorated with Scripture pictures und diagrams, lent by the C.A. Headquaters. After evening service a march round, announcing a lantern service in the Board school took place, and a few van dwellers come in with our Church people, and were addressed by one of our curates, and Capt. Chamberlain and Thompson. We trust the seed sown in faith may in God's timeproduce fruit to His glory. On the Monday evening, which was fortunately fine, our usual distribution of tracts to the Mop visitors, was supplemented by an outdoor lantern service, held in the vicar's drive, close to the main road, which was visited by some hundreds of people. The speaking was sustained by our two captains and the lay reader, and we have reason to thank God for the close attention paid by the crowd, and the freedom from interruption. The hymns, too, were well taken up, and we believe the Lord added his blessing to the word preached by His servants. Friends living in the vicinity of other fairs may well try this plan. A.J.T.”
