NYE, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
Church Army York Van – organiser
“'Half the Population present!' Atwick and Nunkeeling. - The York Van, under Cat. Nye, has just concluded a month's mission in these combined parishes. Although at first it seemed rather a hazardous experiment to attempt a mission in two small villages in the height of summer when latern lectures and other attractions were quite impossible, yet the result has been of a most gratifying nature. No doubt the plan adopted of holding the meetings in the two villages on alternate evenings has helped to maintain the interest and increase the attendance. At some of the meetings practically half the population of the parish has been present, and both Church people and dissenters have given Capt. Nye and Cadet Seddon, a most hearty welcome. Many of the meetings have been held in the open-air, in the vicarage garden at Bewholme, and on the village green at Atwick, where all those present, including even the ordinary village loungers, have listened with marked attention to Capt. Nye's earnest addresses. Many who seldom or never entered a place of worship have thus been reached, and we are hoping that much good been reached, and we are hoping that much good of a permanent nature will result from the mission. T. Duckett (Vicar).”
