“'Well known tramps.' Farnworth. - Capt. Flechtcher, Bro. Brammall, and Bro. Werrick, have conducted services here with 'Manchester ' II. Van. They began their work with a three weeks' mission in St. John's parish, Farnworth, where they had a very good attendance, the lantern services being exceedingly well attended, and the congregation were sorry to part with them. They went to New Bury after for a fortnight, and succeeded in doing much a good there. After leaving New Bury, they went to St. Stephen's, Kersley Moor, and began a three wekks' mission there, but as their good name had gone before them, they met with a hearty reception on thier arrival, the vicar, the Rev. J. Morgan being very kind to them, and rendering all the assistance he could. The result was that the schoolroom was crowded every night. Their stay at Kersley Moor was all too short, but as the congregation of St. Saviour's, Ringley, were waiting for them to commence a fortnight's mission there, they left with the best wishes of the friends they had made. They began their mission by a lantern service, and they had got so well known that a good many people came from three to five miles, in all kinds of weather, to hear them. On the Sunday, Capt. Fletcher gave a stirring address to about seventy young men in church; he also gave an address on the following Sunday afternoon, when the attendance increased to about 140 young men. May Christ's blessing be with them, and may the good seed they have sown bring forth good fruit. W.H., for Capt. Fletcher.”
