STANTON, Captain , senior (fl. 1890s-1900s) – lecturer
“'Englishmen love hard hitting.' Hungerford. - We had good times in this district recently. Capt. Stanton, senior, of the C.A., lectured in a barn, kindly lent by Mr. Brown, of Sanham Green, for the purpose. The subject of the lecture was, 'The Old Curiosity Shop,' which was illustrated by lantern views. The captain drove home his points by amusing stories and hard hits, such as most Englishmen like. The congragation, which was a good one, enjoyed it immensely. Again on Tuesday evening at Eddington, at Newton on Wednesday evening, and at Chilton on Thursday evening, the captain lectured on the same subject, dexterously changing his ideas to drive home new thoughts to the minds of different congregations before which he lectured during the week. The services were well attended, and, through the blessing of God, were a great success. MAy God greatly bless the work of our captain in this locality. W.G.; T.A.P.”
