MERRICK, Brother (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
Church Army Hereford II Van – organiser
“'The Unity of the Spirit.' - Vowchurch. - The 'Hereford' Diocesan Church Army Van No. II. arrived here in the midst of snow. The schoolroom in which the mission services were held was (with the expection of the first few nights, when it was owing to the unfavourable weather) crowded, so that it was almost impossible for many to attend. No one could fail to be impressed with the hearty earnestness of the two missioners. The lantern service on the 'Passion of our Lord' was particulary impressive, as also were all the addresses during the mission. Brother Merrick's solos were well and touchingly rendered, and much liked. The children were greatly pleased by their special lantern services. They seem to have won the hearts and goodwill of all classes, and they have my sincere thanks for the untiring energy in sisting and doing all in their power to win souls for God. Personally I feel much impressed by the missionwork and my intercourse with them, and I am very thankful that they have visited this parish. I pray that it may draw us all in unity in our religious life. I am sure that we shall all gladly welcome them should they visit us again. S.H. Dogson, Vicar of Vowchurch, Hereford.”
