WOOD, Captain J.W. (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
Church Army Worcester I Van – organiser
“'Rally Round your Captain.' - King'S Norton, Nr. Birmingham, St. Nicholas. - We have just concluded a 14 days' mission here, with the 'Worcester' No.I. Van, under the able leadership of Capt. J.W. Wood and his cadet, A. Yates. Services illustratted by an acctylene light lantern were held bearly every night in our new church room, Cotteridge, and at our district church Stirchley, which were marked with much blessing; each service was preceded by an outdoor march. Upwards of 150 people listened on the closing night of our mission to a lecture on C.A. Work (Social an Evangelistic) and we trust that as a result many may be aroused to deeper sense of their own spiritual needs, and may also be led to buckle on the armour and assist our resident captain, who has now been with us close on two years working practically alone. Our GAZETTE only enters about 220 homes, which is a very poor sale fos a vast parish like this, where, at least, 500 meght be circulated if volunteers would only come forward. Our very best wishes and prayers go with Capt. Wood, as he leaves us for Selly Oak. May God make us all more in earnest for souls. F.C.”
