DAWBER, Captain (fl. 1890s-1900s) – lecturer
“NO SUNDAY CLOSING FOR US Pioneer Mission, Leeds. - A Fortnight's Mission has just been held in Emmanuel Parish, Leeds, conducted by Capt. Dawber, of the Church Army, a very earnest worker for God. It has been so successful that (by the Vicar's request) it was continued another week. [...] On Saturday, Jan. 14, we had an Open-air Meeting at seven o'clock. The street was magnificently lighted with the acetylene gas, which enabled us to use our hymn-books. At eight o'clock, the Mission-Room was crowded, when Capt. Dawber told his life, and how he was called to the work, he also gave an address on the coal pit, illustrated with views from the lantern. He will also conduct a fifteen days 'mission at Hull.[...] A Friend.”
