DAVEY, Captain William R. (1867-1941) – lecturer
“A YEAR'S GROWTH Highbury Vale, St. John's. - The work of the C.A. commenced in this parish on the first Sunday in January, 1898, when there was a small meeting not exceeding 20 in number; since then the work has been gradually but distinctly growing in every direction, and on Jan. 5, 1899, we had a most pleasing example of its growth, for when we held the first C.A. tea on that date, 176 sat down to the tea beautifully prepared by Nurse and her helpers, and 200 were present at the lantern lecture afterwards. Afte tea Capt. Davey gave a most interesting lantern lecture, illustrating the work of the C.A., this, and Capt. Barton's solo, were much appreciated by all. The Rev. Evan Jones, presided over the meetingowing to the unavoidable absence of the Vicar. There was a collection takien during the meeting, which together with the profits of the tea, was sent to Headquarters to be devoted to the fund for training Mission Nurses, the amount sent was L1 5s. We were pleased to welcome C.A. friends from St. Stephen's, Canonbury, and St.John's, Essex Road; and also to see many members of the congregation presiding at the tea tables. We have indeed, much cause to thank God for his faithfulness towards us, and we earnestly pray that He will still more abundantly bless and own the work done for Him by Nurse Daley in the parish of St. Johns, Highbury. M. A. T., for Nurse Daley.”
