OUSLEY, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
Cornwood Band of Hope and Temperance Society – organiser
“'Good News for Prodigals.' Lutton. - On Monday, Nov. 22, the Cornwood Church Band of Hope and Temperance Society held their first Entertainment for the season. A Public Tea was held in connection, at which about 60 sat down. On this occasion the children of the Band of Hope were entertained at tea through the kindness of a few friends, who also sent cream and flowers, and helped. The Entertainment followed by the Members. A large number performing were the children, who did their part well, ably assisted by the Organist (Mr.James Fry), who has done so much to develop the vocal powers of the Society. The Vicar opened the proceedings with prayer, and also gave a few words of encouragement and exhortation for all to press forward. Three signed the pledge, and a pleasant evening was brought to a close by singing the grand old hymn, 'Onward! Christian Soldiers!' And so we will, God helping us. A Lantern Service was held lately at Lutton, with illsutrations of the Parable of 'The Prodigal Son.' Capt. Ousley spoke upon each picture. The illustrated hymns produced an excellent effect. The reconciliation of father and son appealed tenderly to the innermost feeling of our human natue, and struck a deeper chord in the heart of those who were still in the far country. God grant to the returning wanderers reconciliation and peace. For Capt. Ousley.”
