“'A counter attraction': Ashe. - The Winchester C.A. Van is now praying a visiti to this parish; and Capt. Cox and his two earnest young helpers, Brother Fowler and Wilson, are winning their way to many hearts, alike by their bright and faithful preaching of 'The old, old Story of Jesus and His Love,' and by their diligent house-to-house visitation. Through the scattered character of the Parish (which is between five and six miles long with no village), it was decided to place the Van for ten days at the outskirts of the parish, and at a point (about halfway along its eastern boundary), where the two neighbouring parishes meet it, (with the cordial consent of the Rectors thereof); and being in a field immediately behind a well-frequented public-house, and close to the village of Deane, there could not have been a better place for it. With the expection of two lantern-lectures, which have been held in the school of Deane, and two in the Parish Room at Steventon, the other meetings have been held either in the school at Ashe, or in the open-air from the Van. On the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 18, nearly two hunderd people assembled for the open air service. On Thursday, Sept. 22, the Van moved up to South Litchfield, a hamlet of Ashe, where there is a little iron church; where the fortnight's Mission would be concluded. The bright and genial manner of the Evangelists, combined with their earnest and devout life, cannot fail to attract all who are brought in contact with them; and we have reason for deep gratitude to God for the Church Army, which can train and send out such men, who, while full of loyalty to the Church, are also fired with devoted love for the dear Lord, and for thsie precious souls whom they seek to win for HIm. A.Moyts, Rector of Ashe, Associate, C.A.”
