“THE GROWN-UP PICTURE BOOK Solihull. - When a Lantern Lecture is announced we invariably get a full room, for the Lantern seems to attract our village folk as nothing else does. Thus many have been drawn to the Church House, every alternate Sunday evening, at 8, when our Rector has conducted a Lantern Service. The Slides (hired from Headquarters) have all been most interesting and instructive, but those we saw (Dec. 18) excelled all so far. The subject was, 'Christmas Chimes.' The Rector at the beginning spoke very earnest words, urging all not to let Christmas Day go by without everyone's heart being filled with love and kind thoughts towards everyone, and if any were harbouring any hard thoughts, or were keeping up any quarrel, to make this holy season the time when all might be swept away. We are very glad to have Capt. Thomas working amongst us. [...] Now he is beginning Lantern Services, and the first was held last week at Street's Brook. The little cottage room was filled to the full, and we believe many were enabled to realize what the dear Lord had done for them more clearly than before through seeing the beautiful pictures. [...] G. P., for Capt. Tmas.”
