Church Army Durham I Van – organiser
“'I THANK GOD FOR THE VAN WORK' Bishopton, Ferryhill. - The Church Army 'Durham' Van No. I. in charge of Captain Atkinson, and his assistant, visited this Parish, the services were held in the schoolroom, they were well attended throughout, the Lantern Services especially so. The Captain and his assistant gave excellent addresses, which were increasingly appreciated as the Mission advanced. They won the hearts of the people from the first, and the people received them into their homes very warmly. I thank God for the church Army Van work. The movement, I am sure, is calculated to do a lasting good and win the hearts of the people to love the dear old Church of England. May God's richest blessing rest upon the work. Firth Newsome (Vicar). W. Atkinson (Captain).”
