Church Army Wakefield Van – organiser
“Longwood. - Capt. Smith and Cadets of the 'Wakefield' Van, have just concluded a three weeks' successful Mission at our schools. Every day during their stay here the Captain and his cadets have worked hard amongst our parishioners, visiting and speaking words of comfort to the sick. Many hearts, which seemed to have grown cold, have, I am glad to say been stirred up by the earnest adressed which they have delivered. The Lantern Lectures have been highly appreciated, both by the young and old; after the first lecture was given, the others were looked forward to with deep interest. It was deeply regretted that we are not able to keep Capt. Smith here with us as a permanet Evangelist; if it was possible to keep him here, he would be a power for good; but we sincerely trust that the seed which he has sown in the hearts of our congregation will bear fruit a hundredfold. The Van left on Monday to go and hold a week's Mission at our Mission Church at Outlane; we hope they will meet with as warm a welcome. W. A. M., for Capt. Smith.”
