“THEIR VERY BEST Longway Bank, Wirksworth. - Only those who know Longway Bank, or are familiar with the country places amongst the Derbyshire Hills, will fully understand how successful - in every way - were our Harvest Festival Services and Tea. The Thanksgiving Gifts appeared to be the very best the dear people could find with which they could praise God for the abundantly blessed Harvest He has given us this year. It seemed to make no difference to the farmers that they had already given to four of five other places of worhsip. The Church Army too must have its share. On Monday evening we had a Public Tea, and in proper C.A. style we asked the dear folk to give the necessary bread, butter, cake, etc., and then invited them to pay to come and partake of the good things they had so generously provided. About 70 responded to the invitation. After tea we spent a pleasant hour with the Magic Lantern, and very much enjoyed the story of 'Mothers's last words,' the Reading being given by Mrs. Hart. I am sure all, who so energetically took part in making this - I belive our first C.A. Festival at the 'Bank' - so successful, feel amply repaid by knowing that so very many thoroughly enjobed themselves. [...] Capt. Hart.”
