“KNOCKED DOWN AND PICKED UP Whittall Street, Birmingham, St. Mary's. - Of late our Meetings have been chiefly out in the open air, when our congregations have been from five to ten times the size we have indoors this time of the year. Many have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, and we trust a good many will be led by the Holy Spirit to believe and receive the blessings. We have been using the Magic Lantern and Acetylene Gaslight, which, as one Brother says, puts the oil light in another street althogehter, and is not affected by the wind. Some hundreds have been attracted to the message at different times by this means and we try, in less than five minutes, to knock a man down and pick him up again - we mean by that (a lession from the Rev. W. Carlile) to show every one around us that they are down beneath the burden and guilt of their own sin, until they see in Jesus, their sin bearer, also their soul and body keeper, until He shall come again. Some have had to testify to the good they have received, while we are sure others ought to regret having missed much blessing, which we know God longs to give them in service for Him. Capt. R. L. King.”
