WOLSTENHOLME, Captain E. (fl. 1890s-1900s) – lecturer
“HOT CROSS BUNS Gorton, St. James'. - A Sunday School has been commenced in Green's Endowed School for those children who are not connected with any Sunday School. On Good Friday morning, at 9 a.m., in St. James' School, through the kindness of several Church Army workers and friends, 100 children sat down to a large hot cross bun and a cup of tea. A few appropriate words were spoken by Capt. Wolstenholme. The scholars and teachers afterwards attended the Children's Service at Church, when an excellent address was given by the Rev. J. E. Mercer, M.A. In the evening a Lantern Service was conducted by Capt. Wolstenholme. The school was well filled. The subject was, 'The birth, life, and death of Christ.' Short addresses were given by Capt. Wolstenholme, and solos were sung by Mrs. Wolstenholme - 'The seven last words,' and 'There is a green hill far away,' a picture of the Crucifixion being upon the sheet during the time the last solo was sung. The collections amounted to 15s. - Extract from Gorton, Openshaw, and Bradford Reporter.”
