HARDCASTLE, Mr (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“MEN WITH COURAGE Bradshaw, near Bolton. - Since the beginning of Lent, we have had many special services and meetings. Mr. Hardcastle has given three very interesting, and profitable, lantern lectures on the 'Pilgrim's Progress,' at Rigby, Riding Gate, and Higher Bradshaw. Nurse Bradford, Mrs. Simkin, and Mrs. Leyshon have kindly come over to conduct meetings for women only, each of which was well attended, and brought much blessing. Captains Paskin, Skinnner, Larner, Lancaster, Simkin and others have taken special meetings at Rigby and Riding Gate. Capt. Lamport has given us a night with the lantern, at which our Band of Hope children gathered first and the adults afterwards. Capt. Leyshon and the C.A. choir (Hindley) kindly came over on a recent Saturday with their beautiful Service of Song, 'Eva.' The room was full. Mr. Hardcastle gave the readings, and Capt. Leyshon illustrated the service with limelight views. Capt. Lothian and his choir gave us a service of songs, 'whiter than snow', the Vicar giving the readings. Our Vicar is much pleased with the number of men he meets weekly to prepare for Confirmation, some coming from our Mission rooms. We have got 15 self-denial boxes out amongst our workers. It is very pleasing to see so many coming to out early meeting each month before going to Holy Communion and it is nice to see a large number of these attending Morning Church Service. Capt. Rowlands and Nurse Bradford spoke at a recent well attended meeting at Riding Gate, Mr. Hardcastle presided. They both spoke of their work in Manchester and a good offertory was taken on behalf on Capt. Rowlands work. At our last Temperance Meeting our Vicar spoke somevery helpful wirds. These meetings have been a 'lift up' to our soldiers, and been the means, we believe, of several deciding for Christ.”
