DAVEY, Captain William R. (1867-1941) – lecturer
“QUITE SURPRISED Wheelock, Christ Church. - We have been much cheered in the Hassall Green part of this parish by a visit from Capt. Davey, and although it was only for one day many are hoping that he will soon come again. On Tuesday, Jan. 4, he came to give us his lecture on C.A. work, illustrated by lantern views, and although the rain came down heavily, and this is a country place, a fairly good number came to hear him, and enjoyed his lecture very much, and I believe many were much surprised to hear of the work that is being carried on by this Society in trying by God's help to rescure the perishing. A lecture was also given to children, entitled, 'the Torn Bible;' the collection althogehter was 14s., which was handed over to Capt. Davey towards helping the poor outcasts. For Capt. Crabtree.”
