WOOD, Captain J.W. (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
Church Army Van (unspecified) – organiser
“In the church croft: A Ten Days' Mission of the Church Army has been held in this Parish, commencing on Sept. 21. The Van was drawn up in the Church Croft adjoining the School. Capt. Wood conducted the Mission, assisted by Cadet Streeton, the Addresses being given in the Schoolroom. The Meetings were well attended throughout, several attending who are rarely seen in the House of God. The stirring addresses, the heartily sung hymns, and the effective lantern illustrations arrested the attention of all present. An interesting account on the Rescue Work and Labour Homes of the C.A. was given one evening, and more than 2p. was collected for these objects. The Mission has deepened the interest of not a few previous worshippers in the Christian Life. Some hitherto quite forgetful of the 'Gospel Call' have received awakening and blessing, and we trust 'will continue instant in prayer.' A weekly devotional meeting has been commenced.”
