“The one great cleansing power: A correspondent writes: - 'We have just come to the close of our Church Army Mission. For nearly a fortnight the work has been continued with increasing interest to its close, viz., the Farewell Services in the Schools after the Church Service on Sunday evening last. Each evening during the Mission, a Lantern Lecture, preceded by a shortened Form of Service, and conducted by the Vicar, was given by Capt. Wood, the Evangelist in charge of the Mission. The earnest, stirring, faithful appeals, which characterised these addresses, accompanied by the life-like views thrown upon the screen, and interspersed with hymns, all combined to bring vividly before the minds of the large and attentive audiences, the all important matter of the presence of sin in the human heart, and the preciousness of the Blood of Jesus as the one great cleansing power provided by the infinite love of God for all men. It is difficult to believe that such a Mission can result in anything but good. Unmistakable evidences are not wanting to show that the words and example of the servants of God who have thus lived and laboured in this parish, even for these few days past, have made an impression, which all who love God must pray may be lasting for good, and be of very happy memory to not a few, upon whom the personal influence of Capt. W. has been very great.”
