CRABTREE, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
HANN, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lantern operator
“It is grand: On Wednesday, Jan. 27, a Lantern Service was held in the Malkins Bank Reading Room, the story being entitled, 'Her Bennie;' the room was well packed, although it was a very rough day and the room very difficult to get to as it is along the canal side some distance from the houses; Capt. Hann, from Burslam, brought his lantern and worked it, whilst Capt. Crabtree gave the connective readings. Capt. Hann afterwards spoke a few earnest words referring to the story and asking one and all to come in the same trustful and childlike way to the foot of the Cross. Every one seemed to have enjoyed the service very much and as the people passed out of the room one could hear the remark made by one and another, 'Oh! it was grand.' God grant that it may be the turning point in many lives, and that they will be able to say from their hearts, 'Oh! It is grand to belong to Jesus.'”
