HIRST, Miss (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“Shirts for Jericho travellers: On Tuesday, Dec. 29, a Tea was provided in the Schoolroom, at which about 100 sat down, and after the tables were cleared, Miss Hirst, from Headquarters, presided over a very full meeting, in the absence of the Vicar, the Rev. T.S. Gale, who was unable to be present on account of illness. Nurse James, from Blackwell, spoke, and then Miss Hirst gave a short, stirring address, afterwards showing some sacred pictures with a Magic Lantern, and singing a solo, 'There is a green hill far away;' Nurse Beerling concluded the meeting with prayer. Several mothers of the Cleeve and Claverham Mothers' Meeting have been making shirts, etc., for the Bristol Labour Home. Many thanks are due to the members of the Cleeve and Cleverham Temperance Band for the music they gave us.”
