HURRY, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“What think you? Burgess Hill, St. John’s – We are anxious to record that we are still pushing on in this battle for the Lord. Since our last Report we have had truly blessed times, with good congregations round our districts. The Testimonies, through few, have been definite, as to the cleansing power of the Blood of Jesus Christ. Our Captain’s addresses have been very clear and pointed as to the end of two roads – the Broad and the Narrow. A series of Lantern Services have also been given by Capt. Hurry on the beautiful 'Life of our Lord”, 'The Life of Joseph” and the 'Pilgrim’s Progress”, each of which was well attended and explained, amny object lessons being taught. Many who perhaps never attend any place of worship, anly weddings, funerals, or on such occasion, were present, and it was marked by almost breathless silence. Our service indoors are also bright and attractive, but we would like more help in the singing, which makes it so cheerful. Sunday, 23rd, our open-air Meeting was extra large in number, the whole crowd taking up singing. Many of the people are desirous of making the vault of heaven ring with acclamation to our King. One Sister, after testifying to the love of Christ, and His power to keep, said, 'I know He is mine, and I am His.” A Brother, who not only plays the harmonium, but helps to carry it from place to place, and play it in the streets to the glory of God, spoke on, 'What think ye of Christ?” Said Peter, 'Thou art the Christ!” Said Thomas, 'My Lord and my God!” Then Brethren – What think you? Then Address by our Captain, dwelling on that love which passes all understanding. Then we closed by singing 'Look ye saints the sight is glorious”, and separated, feeling that God had been with us to bless us.”
