“Poor Little Jess. Kennington, St. Philip’s. – The St. Philip’s Chrch Army Gazette Brigade, Kenninton Road, Lambeth, were entertained on Wednesday evening at Denny Street Mission Hall to a service of song, entitled 'Jessica’s first prayer”, by the excellent C.A. Choir of St. Silas, South Lambeth. We also had some dear C.A: friends from St.Mary-at-Hill and Dorset Street, Spitalfields, amongst us. After singing the well known hymn, 'Tell me the old, old Story”, the Rev. E. Field opened the meeting with prayer, then our friend, Nurse Colson, commenced to read 'Jessica” with much feeling; te reading and singing by the aid of the Holy Spirit seemed to touch many a heart, as we felt our blessed Master in our midst. Poor little Jess, we are afraid there are hundreds of such cases in this London of our caused through drink and neglect of parents who ince loved and cared for them. Brothers and Sisters, cannot we do something for them? The blessed Master said, 'Feed My Lambs”. We can all pray for them, give thema word of cheer and a smile, also try to assist them with the price of a bun and coffee. After a few words of thanks and also a thank-offering from those present we brought a very happy evening to a close. Our humble thank-offering is enclodes (2s. 3d.), accompanied with many prayers, for the dear children’s Fresh Air Fund.”
