“Lilies and their Lessons. Lowestoff, St. Andrew’S Roman Hill. – Easter has been by no means 'a sleepy time” with us here. On Good Friday evening we had a special Devational service which opened with a shortened for of evening prayer, conducted by our curate. After which we had a solo duet and an anthem by our choir, numbering about 40 voices, this was hollowed by limelight views and a lecture illustrating the Christian belief. The service was most solemn and impressive. The living Christ came very near to all, especially as we gazed upon a wonderful picture of Christ upon the cross. Tears were brought many eyes, and we trust tears of repentance came upon many hearts, as they thought upon that wonderous love, which led the son of God to give His life for sinful men. On the Sunday evening we were much refreshed by considering the lilies and their lessons upon the resurrection. On Easter Monday we had a good ham and tongue tea, to which about 130 sat down, followed by a grand entertainment, over which the Rector presided. The large room was full and at the concluson, the Rector said he trusted that the good work, which had been going on of late, would still continue, and that all who lived in that district would not forget to come to the services on Sunday evenings. Our Gazette sales are now 150. For all these blessings we humbly thank God, and ask for continued strength to do His will.”
