“Children are good teachers: The Lantern Season has commenced here in earnest. Captain Davey's visit to us set the ball rolling, and we intend, by God's help, and the kindness of Mrs. Cheshire, in supplying us with slides, to keep it rolling during the winter months. Our Parish Room was completely packed with children on Thursday, Nov. 21, there being nearly 300 present, and our Second Service for adults was very encouraging. Capt. Brittain finds it very cheering, when visiting the people, to hear how the little ones remember the lessons we strive to teach them, they having told their parents what they have seen and heard. Our kind Vicar, Rev. Canon Reith, is a great believer in these Lantern Services, and is very pleased they are so successful in his parish. He believes they will be the means of much good. [...]”
