“Convalescent Home, Meltham Mills. On Wednesday evening last an excellent magic lantern entertainment, interspersed with songs, recitations, etc., was given gratuitously to the inmates and a large number of friends, promotod by Mr W.F. Piggott, from Huddersfield, and party. The Rev. E.A. Kindall, curate of Meltham Mills, presided. The programme opened with a rendering of Dickens' Christmas Carol, 'Marley's ghost,' illustrated with life model slides, by Mr W.C. Piggott. A series of splendid slides, illustrative of the principal places of interest in London and London life, with a visit to the Zoological Gardens, by Mr W.F. Piggott. Songs, 'The Swiss toy girl,' by Miss Braime; 'Zuyder zee,' by Mrs T.A. Haigh; reading, 'The road to heaven;' recitation, 'Curfew must not ring to-night,' illustrated with life model slides, by Miss Braime; recitation, 'The newspaper boy,' by Master Allen Taylor. A number of excellent local views and amusing slides were also shown. Mrs Piggott and Master C.W. Hirst presided at the piano-forte. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all the contributors, on the notion of Mr and Mrs Smith, the master and matron, and a very enjoyable evening then terminated.”
