Given in charge: or, little Joy's mission (story: T.J. and W.F. Piggott, 30 slides, in/before 1888)
DAVEY, Captain William R. (1867-1941) – lecturer
“Helping Head-quarters brings blessing: […] On Monday, at 5.45, he gave a Lantern Lecture to children entitled, 'Little Joy's Mission,' which was thoroughly enjoyed by them, who at the close returned him a hearty vote of thanks in a way that only children can. After this, at 8 o'clock, he gave a descriptive lecture on the working of the Church Army, both Evangelistic and Social, showing some splendid pictures from the Lantern. Our curate kindly worked the Lantern, and as each picture was thrown on the sheet, Capt. Davey gave a very telling description of the work for rescuing the fallen and outcast. We are sure, under God's blessing, these services will help on our work in the parish, and also will enlist greater interest in the working of the Church Army generally. Our captain pointed out the different ways in which the present could help forward by their means, by their sympathy, and by their prayers. We are all very thankful to our Heavenly Father for the many blessings He has been pleased to pour down upon us late. We are glad to state that Capt. Davey took away with him 19s., the proceeds of the two lectures, in aid of the work at Head-Quarters.”
