CALDERWOOD, Captain (fl. 1890s) – lecturer
“Lending a wall: On Tuesday, August 27th, we held an Open-air Meeting at New Town, after which, when the evening got darker, Capt. Calderwood, gave a Lantern Entertainment. The pictures were spoken on by himself and a number of the members, after which the Rev. Fathers (in the absence of our good Vicar, who is away through ill-health) gave us a very interesting address on the grand work which the Church Army is doing. He said he felt very much interested in our work, and just came to see for himself how we went on, as he never had been in contact with the Church Army before. All seemed to be deeply interested throughout. We hope many of them will see the folly of living in sin when they can return to Him Who has died that they might live, and Who for their sakes became poor that they might become rich. We return our sincere thanks to those friends who kindly allowed us to put the sheet on the end of their house, and lent us things we needed. ”
