“A God worth dying for: 'A Crowd of Witnesses' was the title given to a Lantern Service held at Tow Law, on Wednesday, March 20th. The Lecture was given by the Rev. S. Davison to a large congregation of working people, and on Thursday a Lecture was given at Thornley by the Vicar, Rev. R. Marsh, upon the same slides to a very satisfactory congregation. As the season for Lantern Services is drawing to a close, we thought it best to send the profits (which we are pleased to say reached the sum of 12 s.), and which we believe came from cheerful givers as a Thank-offering to Headquarters to help on the Labour Home work. As our minds were drawn back to the times when men and women were put to death for the sake of their religion, many of us thanked God for the noble example set before us, which showed us that our God was not only a God worth living for, worth dying for, if need be. May God grant that it may make us more bolder for Him, and more willing to suffer persecution for the sake of Jesus Christ and our religion than we have been in the past.”
