“Biddy the Irish girl: On Wednesday, Feb. 6th, we had our first C.A. Tea-party in this parish. About fifty sat down to a substantial meal arranged b Capt. and Mrs. Leach. Capt. Harper came from Bristol with his lantern, and Capt. King (also from Bristol), read a touching story entitled, 'Biddy, the Irish Servant Girl,' whose simple faith touched the hearts of most present. At its conclusion Capt. Harper gave a short address, followed by a solo and a few earnest words by Nurse Fennell, of Staple Hill. the Vicar of Winterbourne Down also spoke, and after a few encouraging words by the Rector, a most pleasant evening was brought to a close, many regretting that this is not a permanent C.A. station.”
