W. Gassick, ‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“S.D.W.'s in earnest: On Tuesday last we had a very successful Lantern Service at the Powder Mills, arranged by Mrs. Hogsben, who takes a very kindly interest in our work. Most of the cottagers take the Gazette. Invited by Nurse Wade, I also had a Lantern Service at Golden Green, on the Wednesday. The landlord of the village public lent a large room and he and his wife rendered most kindly help. The room was crowded. On Friday we had a Lantern Service in our Haysden Mission Church. Our own people have done well for the Self-Denial Fund. In about six weeks they have raised about 16p for foreign missions, C.A. Social Work, and our local funds. (Capt. Gassick)”
