“Very good news: Our little village has been much stirred, by a fortnight's mission held here. Acting-Captain Kendrick, who conducted the mission, won the attention of the people by his earnestness, and faithful preaching of Gospel; and he made his message attractive, by speaking much and often, of the happiness of a true Christian, a point which many preachers forget. The joy of the Christian was a special feature in every one of Capt. Kendrick's addresses. The mission was held in a new Parish Room, lately opened, capable of seating 120. On Sunday nights, it was packed, and on week nights the attendance averaged seventy the first week, and eighty-five the second. Much of the success of the mission I attribute to the house to house visiting. One night in each week we had a Magic Lantern service; the slides for 'The Way of the Cross,' were excellent, and brought some of the last hours of our Lord's life on earth, vividly before us. Thirty-seven persons paid each 6 1/2d, for a quarters subscription for the Gazette, and we hope to get more subscribers. [...]”
