“Glad to see many men: According to this promise, our Vicar gave an open-air Lantern Service on Friday week, and again last Friday in the schools. There was a great crowd at each, more children at the first than we wanted. But many, very many, men and women, who took the service to heart, and saw in the story of 'Her Benny' some of the scenes they had passed through. Not a few tears were dropped over the sad story. Some there were who went away feeling it more than they could bear. At the service in the schools, we were glad to see many men, and here the Vicar addressed all with earnest words on the motive and meaning of these services, it being the hearts' desire of all who help, that they should be the means of leading souls to forsake their sins and come to Christ. The second story being on 'Temperance,' drew forth from one who had given keeping a beer-shop, 'they had seen enough of the evil now, they must begin to get good.'”
